The Cat Stevens Variety Hour DVD Collection

This 2 disc set contains highlights from British singer/songwriter Cat Stevens' short-lived television variety series which ran on NBC from 1976-1977, just prior to his much-publicized conversion to Islam. Although NBC execs originally intended to showcase the talented folksinger interacting musically with some of the top entertainers of the day and participating in a comedy skecth or two, Stevens was less than cooperative and frequently used the format to express his religious convictions. The host's insistince that his guests modify their lyrics to incorporate Islamic doctrine results in the Bee Gees grooving their way through "You Should Be Fasting". Stevens is condescending to his guests, dismissing Alice Cooper as "Satan's marionette" and chastizing Dolly Parton for being a "shameless jezebel". If it's awkward conversation and uncomfortable silence that you're after, this DVD's definitely for you.
Trombone Hero

Hot off the heels of the immensely popular Guitar Hero comes the latest video game installment based on the famous lip-reed aerophone. Players begin by honing their skills in high-school gymnasiums, before eventually moving on to regional university band competitions and finally smoky jazz clubs and orchestra pits. Trombone Hero is available for a variety of game consoles, and features over 40 pieces of music. The centerpiece to the entire package is the scaled-down trombone game controller, which features a realistic tuning slide and spit valve. Plug it in, turn it on, and before long, you'll be well on your way to becoming the next Tommy Dorsey.
